Welcome Pack

Settling in with your child

Starting a nursery can be very challenging for any child, they have to adjust to a new environment, new adults and children, and be left alone. All of this can be scary and upsetting for them however with careful management they will become happy to stay until eventually they will not want to come home!!

It is important to recognise that every child will settle in their own way, some may be very confident, settling quickly others may need to spend more time to gradually become used to the nursery environment and gain confidence.

For this reason your child's Key person will work closely with you to arrange visits and agree settling in times suited to your child, gradually increasing times until they are completely comfortable and settled.

We understand that in the initial settling - in period children may need to bring along a toy or comfort from home however we do ask that toys in particular remain at home if possible as other children may want to play with them which can be upsetting, especially if they are lost or broken.

Clothing

Children are encouraged to develop their skills both inside and out.

We make every attempt to allow children access to the garden in all weathers.

You can help us by providing your child with the correct clothing for the weather according to season ie

When raining wellies, raincoat waterproofs In cold weather, coat, hat scarf warm clothing

We recommend that heavy boots and wellies are not worn all day ,a change of shoes is required for indoor play.

During hot weather Sun hat, sensible sandals (no jellies or flip flops please) sun cream and cool clothing that covers shoulders and back of necks.

Snacks and Food & Drink

We offer water or milk at snack time and meal times.

Water is available throughout the day for your children to help themselves.

We open a snack bar area each morning and afternoon to allow children to choose from a healthy range of snacks.

Lunches are cooked fresh daily by our cook, menus are worked on a 3 week rota and any dietary requirement will be met (please ensure we are informed).

Sample Menus can be found in our welcome pack.
